The Emissions Trading System and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism after the EU Elections

13 June 2024  •  11:30 – 15:30 CEST

Online / Comet Meetings – Louise, 20 Stefaniaplein 1050 Brussel

Following the European Parliament elections, there will be a need to strengthen EU climate policy, including the 2040 targets.

At this event, the sixth edition of a series of meetings, we will shine a light on two important new policy instruments to decarbonise our economy and society. With our speakers and a wide group of stakeholders, we will discuss the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and the justness of the EU Emissions Trading System for road transport and buildings.

The first panel discussion focuses on what CBAM means for the decarbonisation of Europe’s heavy industry and climate action outside the EU.

The second panel will discuss how we can ensure the fair implementation of carbon pricing in buildings and road transport. We will consider how the EU election will impact ETS2 and how we can build up public support for carbon pricing.

Join us on- or offline to discuss the future of some of the biggest pillars of European climate policy. Are these instruments equipped for an effective and fair transition to a decarbonised Europe?
