Review of the Bonyic Hydroelectric Project’s request for registration will start. If rejected, the CDM Executive Board would be sending a strong message to the world for the need to comply with CDM rules and international law.
As we gear up for another round of climate talks, it is apparent that the time for CDM reform is now.

What if friends who attempted to protest the plant disappeared mysteriously? And what if this was not a new occurrence, but rather a story that has been repeated again and again for over 50 years? If you live in Singrauli, India this is your reality, and amazingly, the answer is you would still fight back.
The infamous CDM Barro Blanco hydro power project, registered in 2011, continues to cause unrest amongst indigenous communities in Panama. Civil society organizations filed a letter in an ongoing domestic lawsuit in a Panamanian court, after a visit by UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples who concluded that the government should have ensured adequate consultation. Despite the negative impacts on the Ngöbe communities, the CDM remains without remedies for affected people to appeal against CDM projects that violate applicable international, including international human rights laws.
The undersigned organizations would like to bring your attention to the fact that Adani Power’s project “Grid connected energy efficient power generation”, which is registered under the United Nations’ Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), is in violation with various national regulations, as highlighted in the inspection committee report of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) released in April 2013.

Despite severely over-supplied carbon markets and lacking mitigation commitments, countries are currently developing additional carbon market schemes. At the same time, countries are contemplating what changes are needed to the underlying rules of the CDM. They are also negotiating REDD and other approaches to reduce emissions from international aviation.
